How to Freeze Mint

Can you freeze it? Yes — mint freezes well and is particularly useful for preserving large summer harvests.

Preparation

Wash leaves and pat dry. Remove leaves from stems.

How to Freeze

Water cube method (best for drinks and desserts): Place 2 to 3 whole mint leaves in each ice cube tray compartment. Fill with water and freeze. Use these mint ice cubes in iced tea, lemonade, cocktails, or water for a decorative and flavorful touch.

Oil cube method (for cooking): Chop mint finely, pack into ice cube trays with olive oil. Good for lamb dishes, tabbouleh, and Middle Eastern cooking.

Purée method: Blend mint with a small amount of water into a paste. Freeze in trays. Thaw cubes for mint sauce, chutney, or adding to desserts.

How Long It Lasts

3 to 6 months.

How to Thaw

Water cubes: use frozen in drinks. Oil cubes and purée: use from frozen in cooking or thaw for sauces.
